Cheryl Ann Shepherd-Sumen joined our Lord in Heaven on Friday, December 20, 2013. She leaves behind her husband, Michael Sumen, and her four children, Kelly (Al) Shepherd-Purmort, Jade Shepherd, Heather (Andrew) Pierson, and Quinn (Alison) Shepherd. She is survived by her mother, Grace Polley, and siblings, Nancy (Paige Harper) Polley and Steve (Liz) Polley. She adored her six grandchildren Jacob, Eve, Ethan, Eli, Isaac, and Georgia. She was preceded in death by her father, John T. Polley. Cheryl was born June 4, 1954 in Broadstairs, Kent, England while her father was stationed overseas. She graduated from Carmel High School in 1970, and was married to high school sweetheart Dave Shepherd from 1971 to 1986, with whom she had her four children. She married Michael in 1988 and was a frequent sight at concerts by his band, Lemon Wheel. Cheryl was as caring as she was beautiful and forever touched the lives of those she loved.

Memorial service will be held Monday, December 23, 2013 at Carmel United Methodist Church 621 S. Rangeline Rd, Carmel, In starting at 6:30 p.m. immediately followed by Her Celebration of Life. A private burial will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hamilton County Humane Society. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan - Carmel .
