Carmel population: 1960 = 1,442
1970 = 6,691
1980 = 18,272
1990 = 25,380
2000 = 37,733
2007 = 68,700 (special census)
Can't believe that Carmel grew by over 5,000 while we were there!

I can believe it...I was one of those kids that was "bussed to Carmel" all 12 yrs & I watched it change from a small farming community into a "bedroom community". Looking @ those elementary & then jr hi pics you can see the gradual explosion...thanx for those #s Christie, I'd never seen the official data. Now I wonder what the #s are for the Carmel-Clay school district/townships. Anybody remember the Clay Township school on 116th near Billy Creek?

Any oldtimers remember the Monon derailment?
